EVE’s Climate Change Initiative is a core project undertaken by EVE International Foundation, which aligns with EVE International’s pillar of climate action. This projects strengthens our commitment to creating a sustainable future by addressing the pressing issue of climate change through education, advocacy, and sustainable practices. The initiative aims to empower individuals, particularly students, to become change agents in their communities and contribute to environmental conservation.
Objectives:
Raise Awareness: The initiative seeks to increase awareness among students, teachers, and community members about the impact of climate change and the importance of sustainable practices.
Promote Waste Segregation: By educating students about the 5Rs (refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle), the initiative aims to promote waste segregation within schools and communities, leading to a reduction in waste production and improved environmental outcomes.
Empower Students: The initiative will empower students by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and resources to become environmental stewards. Through workshops, training, and practical activities, students will learn about sustainable practices and develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Foster Partnerships: The initiative seeks to collaborate with key stakeholders, including educational institutions, waste management companies, and environmental organizations, to create a network of support and resources for effective implementation.
THEPROGRAMME
The Segregation Program is being piloted in the Nima Cluster of schools, where monthly Educational Presentation/Awareness will be conducted to educate students on the 5Rs and their significance in combating climate change. EVE’s Climate Change Initiative will provide bins for waste segregation, and students and teachers will be encouraged to actively participate in the program. The program will work closely with waste management companies to collect recyclable materials, generating potential revenue and incentivizing schools and communities for their contributions. These educational presentations /awareness will be tailored to suit different grade levels and designed to engage students actively.
EVE’s Climate Change Initiative will provide dustbins for waste segregation within schools. Students will be encouraged to practice the principles of refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle, leading to a more sustainable waste management system. Additionally, EVE’s Garden will be established as a sustainable gardening project where organic food waste will be recycled into organic fertilizers. The garden will serve as a learning platform for students and communities to understand the importance of recycling and repurposing waste, while also promoting healthy food production and self-sustainability.
Repurposing initiatives will be implemented, focusing on transforming plastic sachets and bottles into reusable bags. Community members, including seamstresses, will be trained to create these bags, which can be sold locally at markets or to students, generating revenue that will be reinvested back into the program.
Measurement and Evaluation – Regular progress measurements will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. This will include tracking waste reduction, behaviour change, and environmental impact. The data collected will inform program adjustments and improvements.
The initiative will foster collaborations with waste management companies and environmental organizations to organize activities such as beach clean-ups, tree planting campaigns, and recycling initiatives. These partnerships will enhance the impact and sustainability of the initiative.
Expected Outcomes:
Increased awareness and understanding of the 5Rs and their importance in combating climate change among students, teachers, and community members.
